Why do the costs of indoor plants vary so much?
Over the past 25 years, Debra has searched the jungles of the world for botanical knowlege and toured nurseries to learn about commercial plant production in California, south Florida, Mexico and Hawaii.

Large greenhouse production facilities have high energy costs for heat, water, labor, soil mixes, grow pots, electricity and fertilizer for indoor bench grown plants and, overhead labor costs for greenhouse workers who feed, water, rotate and prune the plants during their long pre-market life.

Amerson began to understand the higher long term production costs for greenhouse grown plants vs less expensive field grown varieties planted outside in the full sun.

Top quality plants are properly acclimated to prepare them for light conditions present inside modern homes or offices.

Are plants at discount stores good quality plants?
Have you ever bought a plant from those stores and suddenly, it rapidly drops leaves and dies? Many tropical plants intended for indoor use are field grown in full sun to accelerate rapid growth. They are often pumped with fertilizers and growth hormones to speed them into the marketplace. This practice delivers plants unacccustomed to lower light conditions present in most interiors and likely results in the plant's failure and ultimatly death to many otherwise good plants. Plants are living things and deserve a chance. Failures growing indoor plants also damage people's self confidence and add to America's throw away mentality.

We love plants and keeping plants alive is our business. Some plant species take several years to mature into tall speciman plants. They are often field or greenhouse grown for many years before being moved into a shaded greenhouse to prepare it for eventual relocation to homes or offices.
